PAL History

Progressive Affiliated Lumbermen (PAL) is a member owned co-op located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. PAL is a leader in the Lumber and Building Materials industry. PAL has the distinction of being the oldest lumber and building materials co-op in the United States.
Established in 1934 and incorporated in 1937, PAL was started by 7 independent lumber dealers with the vision to combine their purchases to increase their buying power. By combining their resources to purchase 9 carloads of Globe Roofing, PAL was formed.

Today, PAL uses Webinar technology and distinct group websites for all of its members.  Offering nationwide suppliers and distribution partnerships with strategic reload centers, PAL currently operates in 17 states.

Since the beginning, PAL has encouraged its members to maintain their independence and competitive edge. PAL’s focus is as clear as it was in 1937, that is to give independent dealers the tools to survive and prosper in an increasingly competitive market.
